Farm Tours from 4 to 5:30 pm
If you've never had the chance to pet a chicken or pull food out of the ground and eat it, friend, here's your chance! How do plants grow? What special physiology makes a chicken be a chicken? How do animals and plants work together to make a healthy farm? In this educational farm tour, the farmers of Bluestem Farm will teach you how to be a farm naturalist.
All ages are welcome. This event, like farming, happens rain or shine, but there’s a big barn for cover if the weather’s not good. Please dress for the forecast and wear comfortable shoes you won’t mind getting dirty. Parking is across M32, on the dirt road side of Adams Road (near the blue storage units).
Donations are gladly accepted on behalf of Blue Plate Project, our farm's food outreach program. A donation is by no means required, but we really appreciate registration through the form at the bottom of this page.
Film Screening & Discussion Panel from 5:30 to 7 pm
The Northwest Michigan Food and Farming Network presents a free screening of In Defense of Food, a documentary film based on the #1 New York Times bestselling book of the same name. Join author Michael Pollan on a fascinating journey to answer the question: What should I eat to be healthy?
In Defense of Food is indispensable viewing for anyone interested in the relationship between food and health. Busting myths and misconceptions, the movie reveals how common sense and old-fashioned wisdom can rekindle the pleasures of eating and at the same time reduce the risks of falling victim to diet-related diseases.
The film screening will be followed by a discussion led by local farmers, food leaders, and community health professionals. Simple seating (we're talking haybales and boards) will be plentiful, but you're welcome to bring things like folding chairs and blankets if you like. Light refreshments will be served.
This event is sponsored by Northwest Michigan Food and Farming Network, Grain Train Natural Foods Market, Frog Hollow Farm and Bluestem Farm.

Why Not Make a Day of It?
You could also take your crew to hike Deadman's Hill , rent a canoe for a trip on the nearby Jordan River, or check out what's happening at Raven Hill Discovery Center, the Jordan River Arts Council or Martha Wagbo Farm & Education Center.
It's also a really huge day for garage sales in our neighborhood.
